Issues Overview

The cost of living in Ventura County has risen faster than many families’ ability to keep up.
Restoring Affordability
Housing costs, regulatory barriers, and limited housing stock have made it increasingly difficult for working families and young people to stay in the communities where they grew up. Michael believes Sacramento must focus on policies that expand housing availability, modernize construction rules, and support practical solutions that increase supply while protecting the character of local communities.

Ventura County should be a place where teachers, nurses, service workers, and young families can afford to live.
Controlling Insurance Costs
Families across Ventura County are seeing rising insurance costs — from health coverage to homeowners’ insurance.  Wildfire risks have driven up premiums for homeowners across California, leaving many families struggling to maintain coverage.  Michael believes the state must take stronger action to stabilize the insurance market, protect consumers, and ensure families are not forced out of their homes by skyrocketing premiums.
Strengthening Ventura’s Economy
Ventura County’s economy has changed dramatically.  For decades, agriculture and energy industries were the backbone of local economic opportunity. Today, the economic landscape is shifting, and policy must keep pace with those changes.  Michael believes Ventura County needs an economic strategy that supports local businesses, encourages innovation, and ensures new industries can grow while maintaining the county’s unique character.  A strong local economy means more jobs, stronger communities, and greater stability for families.
Ensuring a Transparent and Accountable Government
Michael has spent his career strengthening transparency and public trust in government.  As Ventura’s City Clerk, he has modernized records systems, expanded public access to government processes, and implemented electronic campaign finance filing to increase transparency.  In the State Assembly, he will bring that same commitment to accountability and responsive government.  Residents deserve leadership that listens, acts responsibly, and puts the public first.
